Firing of VPs is proof chaos in Zimbabwe - SADC must act now and decisively P Guramatunhu

The firing of Mnangagwa is not an "early Christmas present for MDC", as Nelson Chamisa claim because without reforms Zanu PF will still rig the vote.

MDC leaders like Nelson Chamisa had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU which would have dismantled the Zanu PF dictatorship as we know it. They failed to get even one reform implemented and lost their chance.

Yes Zanu PF is imploding but what of it! As long as one faction is able to retain the control of the levers of power and exercise the carte blanche powers to rig elections then Zanu PF will retain and exercise absolute political power.

The firing of Joice Mujuru and her supporters in 2014 and now Mnangagwa and his supporters has left Zanu PF regime very weak at time when the country, because of the serious economic meltdown due to the decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption, desperately need a competent and strong government. The threat Zimbabwe sliding into economic and political chaos is real and, if that was to happen, it is almost certain that Zimbabwe will drag other nations in the SADC region into the abyss with her. This is a serious warning to SADC leaders.

It is not too late for SADC leaders to step in and show Mugabe they are concerned about the chaotic situation in Zimbabwe. Everyone can see that Zanu PF is already rigging next year's elections and another rigged election could well send Zimbabwe tumbling down into the abyss. SADC should stop the election process before it reaches the point of no return! There is no time to be wasted, SADC leaders must act now and act decisively!

SADC leader can write to President Mugabe expressing their concern over the chaotic going-on in the country. They can then remind the tyrant of the critical importance for Zimbabwe to hold free, fair and credible elections next year and remind him why they had suggested that the 2013 elections should be postpone to allow democratic reforms to be implemented before elections. They note, with regret, that not even one reform has been implemented. They can ask President Mugabe to give them the assurance that his regime will produce a verified voters' roll, for example, for next year’s elections. This will be SADC leaders' warning shot over the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut boat.

President Mugabe can choose to either deny that Zimbabwe is descending into chaos and insist he will deliver free, fair and credible elections. Or he can ignore SADC leaders, as he has often done in the past. What matters here is that SADC leaders would have nailed their colours on the mast "WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHAOS AND LAWLESSNESS IN ZIMBABWE AND WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO DRAG THE COUNTRY AND THE REGION INTO THE ABYSS!"

  1. Mnangagwa is an "over rated iguana and not a crocodile," that is a good one.

Mugabe has not moved to fire Mnangagwa's supporters because he knows that there will be very few people left in the party if he did that. Mnangagwa and his supporters were the ones operating the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut this is the greatest challenge the tyrant now has to face and deal with!

If Mugabe was to go right now, Grace and her G40 followers will all disappear like a mist in the morning sunshine! Crocodiles are patient hunters and Mugabe knows that and that must worry him. This factional war is not over by a long shot!

  2. Zanu PF provincial committees have already started the purge of Mnangagwa supporters with Manicaland firing Chinamasa, Oppar Muchinguri and many other bigwigs and pledging their loyalty to Mugabe and asking for Grace to be the next VP.
This is terrible, these Zanu PF supporters are all queuing behind Grace Mugabe because they are all fearful of what might happen to them too if they should be seen to question anything Grace says. The country is in serious political and economic trouble and therefore in desperate need for quality leaders this culture of blind loyalty to a leader is what got us into this mess.
Zimbabwe must implement the democratic reforms before next elections, this is the only way we can stop these Zanu PF sycophants imposing another corrupt and incompetent leaders on the nation.

  3. “Both sides have done great evil together. Both sides continue in their evil. Don’t be fooled into thinking there is a better side, a better devil because there is no such thing as a better devil because a devil is a devil,” said Margaret Dongo.

She nailed it right there! “Kubaya gudo mukanwa!” as one would say in Shona.

The people of Zimbabwe should take full advantage of the in fighting in Zanu PF which has claimed many casualties since the booting out of Joice Mujuru and her supporters in 2014 and now Mnangagwa and his supporters. There is no doubt that Zanu PF is as weak as the party was during the GNU when it signed on to the implementation of the democratic reforms. Tsvangirai & co. betrayed the nation during the GNU by failing to get not even one democratic reform implemented. This must not be allowed to happen ever again.

We must demand the implementation of the reforms BEFORE the elections. If we cannot stop the flawed elections going ahead, Tsvangirai & co. are determined to contest regardless how flawed and illegal the process, then we must make sure the whole world see the elections who what they really are – a sham.

If Zanu PF is allowed to rig the next year elections and get away with it then the dictatorship would have bought itself some five years to regroup and consolidate its hold on power, just as it did regroup during the GNU. Making sure there are free, fair and credible elections is the only sure way of getting rid of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship once and once for all!

  4. Those of us who have known Runaida Teurai Ropa Joice Mujuru during the liberation war will tell you that she a brave fighter but not material to hold public office. The only reason President Mugabe promoted her to be cabinet member for 34 years is because he liked to surround himself with simpletons who would never challenge him regardless how outrageous his actions happened to be.
President Mugabe would have never destroyed the country’s once promising economy and murdered over 30 000 of our people to establish and retain this corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship; if the country had competent MPs and cabinet members.
“Mr Mnangagwa we urge you to make a reflective damascene moment and realise that the National problem is just the Gushungo Dynasty,” said Runaida.
So, the sum total of Runaida’s “reflective damascene moment” is that the nation’s problem is the Gushungo Dynasty! Grace Mugabe only woke up to the reality that her husband will not remain president forever and therefore she must seize power in 2012 or so. By then Zimbabwe was already in serious economic and political trouble which Runaida, being the myopic simpleton she is, failed to see.
“Satan will run away with the Bible!” Only Runaida would say something so stupid; nothing would please the high heavens more than to hear the tenants of Hell have discarded their dirty XXX rated magazines and devil worship in favour of the Bible!
Runaida, you are a simple woman with no clue what the country’s problems are much less the solutions. You and your Zanu PF mentality of thinking you are the wisest of the wise are at the very heart of Zimbabwe’s problems. Just shut your big trap, you have caused enough suffering and deaths in the land already. Just shut up!

  5. The real reason Mnangagwa was hounded out of the VP post and the party is the same reason Joice Mujuru suffered the same fate - he was in poll position to succeed Mugabe. Grace wants to succeed Mugabe and therefore anyone else who was better positioned to do so was considered a serious threat.

If the party, for whatever reason, should fail to appoint Grace VP next month then whoever is given the job must confirm in writing to Grace that they are only holding the position for her to take over as and when she is ready to do so or else they too will be in trouble. My guess is Mugabe will not mess around this time and just appoint her VP.

Until three years ago Grace Mugabe had held no party or government position; she was too busy shopping and looting. It was only when Mugabe frailty due to ill health and old age became very significant that the penny drop - if he died there will be no more shopping and looting. She panicked. She could not be minister much less deputy minister - the shopping and looting opportunities were unacceptably too few for her.

    Solution- she must become president!

In a few weeks’ time, she will be VP. She will then go on the usual Far - East family shopping and looting holiday; she has earned this one!

On return her husband will name the date for new elections, the party's vote rigging juggernaut has been well oil with the looted billions of dollars from Marange and other source; Mugabe and the party's victory is already in the bag. Grace can then formally take over the presidency from the frail Mugabe at the next opportune moment for her. The final act of the "bedroom coup", as Jabulani Sibanda had aptly called it! Job done!

The only way the people of Zimbabwe can save themselves from the nightmare of another five years of a Zanu PF dictatorship with the electric extension plug wield Grace at the helm is by demanding that the democratic reform must be implemented BEFORE the next elections. People must wise-up to the political reality that Zanu PF will rig the coming elections as long as nothing is done to stop the regime rigging the vote. Morgan Tsvangirai’s promise to win the elections because MDC has Winning In Rigged Elections (WIRE for short) strategies is just one of the many foolish ideas to come out of Harvest House.

MDC’s campaign of “mass mobilisation of people to register and then to vote” has already fallen flat on its face. Zanu PF delayed the BVR registration exercise so much so there is simple no way anyone, even with the best will in the world can register 7 million voters from scratch in the four months ZEC has been given. The unreformed ZEC is but a department of Zanu PF there to help advance the party’s vote rigging agenda of denying opposition supporters the vote and so it is not surprising that ZEC has been throwing spanners of its own just to frustrate the opposition’s efforts to get as many registered as possible.

It is also clear that ZEC will not have time to produce a verified voters’ roll. Without a verified voters’ roll the sky is the limit to the vote rigging shenanigans Zanu PF can employ to secure the landslide victory! Last time the opposition contest the elections even with such a key document as a verified voters’ roll; they will do the same again this time!
