Murewa it is not ZLP but Mugabe who is "selfish and lacks national vision"! by Patrick Guramatunhu

“Zimbabwe Liberators Platform (ZLP) Secretary-general Wilson Nharingo recently said that President Mugabe had eroded the liberation war values and the country was virtually under siege from ZANU PF forces of destruction,” wrote Stewart Murewa, Bulawayo 24 Opinion.

“The war veteran leader and his clique of supporters seem to be out of touch with reality. They are few malcontents who are selfish and lack the national vision. This group should not just shout for the sake of it as we know that they are seeking relevance who have been expelled from the mainstream war veteran association due to their megalomania.

“It is now a known fact that ZLP members are a bunch of power hungry war veterans who are after looting and self aggrandizement. Proper and patriotic war veterans should hail the President for providing funds for demobilization, Zim $50 000 gratuities and the monthly pensions allowances. In addition to these their children's fees are catered for by the government. Moreover others who were injured during the armed struggle were paid disability allowances.”

The trouble with stupid apologists like Stewart is that they do not know when the game is up!

Zimbabwe's war of independence was fought for freedom, justice, human rights and so all Zimbabweans can have they fair share in the nation's economic wealth. After 36 years there can be no doubt that President Mugabe and his Zanu PF ruling clique are the ones who have betrayed the nation by abandoning these values for selfish political gain.

The Zimbabwe economy has collapsed millions of our people are out of work and are now living in abject poverty without the most basic necessities of life like clean running water, decent health services, etc. They dream of a fair share of the nation's wealth evaporated soon after independence as it became increasing clear that President Mugabe and his cronies were going to claim the lion's share of the nation's wealth.

The white colonialists too took the lion's share of the nation's wealth and resources but at least they used it to create more wealth building one of the most robust economy in Africa. We all had plenty to eat. After independence Mugabe and his cronies took the lion's share of the wealth only to waste it away. Mugabe and his cronies seized the white farms only to leave them to lay fallow whilst the nation starved.

Even at his meeting with the war vets on Thursday, this late in the show, President Mugabe still blamed the sanctions for the country's economic collapse. Yet only last month he admitted that $15 billion in diamonds revenue was looted from Marange in the last seven years alone. Many people believe he admitted to a tiny fraction which, nonetheless, constitutes the country's GDP! How anyone would expect the nation to prosper with such grand theft going on!

Yes President Mugabe has provided war vets “funds for demobilization, Zim $50 000 gratuities, etc.” but these payouts were nothing more that the ruling elite throwing a few bread crumbs at the war vets who, like the rest of the population were rightly concerned about the growing poverty and alarmed by the criminal waste of resources.

Mugabe's devious cynicism in his dealings with the war vet is sickening. On Thursday President Mugabe said he would allocate farms to war vets and has asked them to open up their own mining operations. When he and his cronies got the white farms they inherited the animals, plant and equipment, everything and for the next decade they got billions of dollars in fuel allowances and other State assistance. They still failed to make productive use of the farms and many have since abandoned the farms. Now Mugabe wants to give the farms stripped of all movable assets to war vets, they will get no State assistance of any kind and expect them to turn back the clock and make the farms productive again!

Of course President Mugabe does not expect a war vet to open up a platinum or gold mine to compete with mining giants like ZimPlat or Rio Tinto. He is just being cynical.

President Mugabe has given the war vets the bread crumbs and then used them to silence the povo who have been crying for a fair share of the nation's wealth, freedom, justice and human rights. In his most satanic move yet, President Mugabe has brainwashed the war vets into believing that they are defending the nation's “hard won independence and sovereignty” by denying the ordinary people their basic freedoms and human rights including the right to free and fair elections and even the right to life.

“They (ZLP) are few malcontents who are selfish and lack the national vision,” Murewa tells us.

A few Zimbabweans including the ZLP have seen Mugabe for the cynical, manipulative, corrupt and murderous tyrant he is. It is Mugabe who is selfish and lacks vision; the historic facts of the last 36 years speak for themselves. If there is to be peace and justice in Zimbabwe then people like President Mugabe and his acolytes like Stewart Murewa must account for their part in dragging this nation into this hell!

  1. Mugabe is a murderous tyrant who is scarred of giving up power because he cannot trust anyone else to keep his dirty past concealed. He is having a tough time concealing it himself what more some one else!

Msipa said Mugabe's 56 years in politics were long enough for a "normal human being to hang the boots". Msipa said Mugabe had played his part which why he now needed to pass on the button.

When you have as many skeletons in the basement, attic, mine-shift, etc., etc. as Mugabe has you never hang up your boots because you know one those boots will be hanging but with you still in those!
